THE SYMPHONY:
|
No longer Southwest Riverside County's "Best-kept musical secret," the Inland Valley Symphony has grown in size and artistic achievement. Now in its 17th season, the symphony is being hailed as a leading cultural attraction in the region.
The Inland Valley Symphony is a 55-member community symphony under the musical direction of Maestro Anthony Parnther. IVS is rapidly becoming known as a regional symphony, attracting musicians from throughout the Southland. The volunteer base of musicians who dedicate their time and talent to the Symphony come from various regions of Southern California including the counties of Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego.
The Inland Valley Symphony performs 5 concerts per season with plans to expand that in 2012-2013 to include a Halloween Extravaganza that includes a safe place for parents to bring their children.
Members of the Symphony are actively involved in arts education and community outreach and provide coaching to the Murrieta Mesa High School Orchestra members through a special partnership the Symphony has with the school.
IVS will also be hosting a series of FREE recitals and workshops at the Grace Mellman Library in Temecula throughout 2012.
Several exclusive recitals are planned for 2012, outside of the orchestra's normal concert calendar, that will include virtuoso talent such as pianist Ryan MacEvoy McCullough. These recitals are held in smaller venues and provide a unique opportunity to be up close and personal with the soloist and include a social reception following the concert.
Plans are currently being made to add a music festival and additional masterclasses for the 2012 calendar year.

THE ORGANIZATION: |
The Symphony is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization that is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of volunteers, community leaders and musicians from the organization.
Various area business people serve on the symphony's Advisory Board and provide support for the organization by providing in-kind services on an as-needed basis.
Concerts, community outreach activities and the Symphony's music education program are made possible by individual membership subscriptions, grants and corporate sponsorships.
In 2008 the Inland Valley Symphony founded the Inland Valley Youth Symphony. The Youth Symphony performs several concerts per season with a roster of over 50 young musicians.
The Youth Symphony currently offers four levels of ensembles, including performance opportunities to young musicians from ages 6 through 21 and include the Youth Symphony, Wind Symphony, Attacca (intermediate youth symphony) and Prelude (beginning strings). Under the musical direction of Karen Thurman-Palmer and Thomas Garvin, the four groups focus on providing quality music education for the children with emphasis on preparing them to be more successful musicians and good students of the arts.
In addition to performing concerts, the musicians of the symphony volunteer to assist beginning music programs in the area by providing coaching. They work closely with local school music departments to raise the awareness of classical music and nurture the development of young musicians.
The IVS Young Artist Competition is held during the 1st quarter of each year with the winners being selected to perform a movement of their concerto with the Symphony in concert during the Spring.
The 2011-2012 Season has shown unprecedented growth for the IVS with record concert attendance and an increased volunteer base of patrons and community supporters.
Community members and patrons are discovering that they no longer have to make long trips to San Diego, Orange County or Los Angeles to find quality music productions. The Inland Valley Symphony offers them quality music and concerts at a terrific value.
